Two months ago, Audi just dropped the 2025 A5 in the States, straight-up replacing the A4. This new four-door hatch will run you $48,995 to start, plus $1,295 for shipping if you're not local. Yeah, it’s a $3,600 hike from the A4 it’s benching, but you're also getting some sweet upgrades in the package. We're talking a revamped setup and boosted performance. The A5’s got a more coupe-ish vibe, lower and sleeker than the A4. Think fastback design with a subtle ducktail – sporty AF. Under the hood, you get a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder that cranks out 268 horses. All-wheel drive is standard, so it’s ready to grip and rip.
Exterior Design
Let’s break down the styling differences between the A5 and A4. The Audi A5 rocks a sleek coupe vibe with a low, streamlined stance, featuring a fastback roofline and a subtle ducktail spoiler that amps up its sporty look. Its rear end has sharper, more aggressive lines that really push the performance feel. On the flip side, the A4 sticks to a classic three-box sedan shape with cleaner, more straightforward lines. It’s built for business and daily grind, with balanced proportions and a focus on practicality over flash. The A4’s design is more about steady, no-nonsense utility, while the A5 flexes with a sportier, more aggressive attitude.
The A5's hexagonal grille is flatter, with matrix LED headlights that support digital light signatures, and a three-stage lower surround design, which makes it more sporty. The A4's design is relatively restrained, with squarer headlights. The A5 uses through-type OLED taillights and a larger hatchback tailgate opening. The A4 has traditional taillights and a three-box tailgate, which is more conservative in design.
Besides, the Audi A5 is about 187 inches long with a 114-inch wheelbase. It's a bit lower at around 56 inches tall, plus it’s longer and wider than the old A4. You're looking at about 2.8 inches more legroom. Even though the older A4L might be longer overall, the A5 gives you a bit more headroom. The A5 Sportback boasts a sleek and sporty design that combines the body styles of a fastback coupe, a sedan, and a hatchback.
Interior Design
In terms of interior, the Audi A5 has been completely revamped. The high-end models are equipped with a triple-screen design of 11.9-inch instrument panel + 14.5-inch central control screen + 10.9-inch co-pilot entertainment screen. It is equipped with the latest "Digital Stage" system and supports touch and voice interaction.
The material is made of a lot of metal and wood grain panels, the seats are more enveloping, and the sporty style is obvious. The interior of the A4 is mainly practical, the central control screen is small, at 10.1 inches, there is no passenger entertainment screen, and the technology configuration is relatively basic. The coupe shape of the A5 makes the rear headroom slightly cramped, but the hatchback tailgate improves the storage flexibility.
Performance
In terms of powertrain, the Audi A5 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 268 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm. Despite the increase in power, its 0-60 mph acceleration time has increased from 5.2 seconds in the A4 to 5.6 seconds.
The Audi S5 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with a maximum power of 362 horsepower and a peak torque of 550 Nm. The S5 has a more powerful performance, the old S4 has a power of 349 horsepower and a torque of 500 Nm, but its weight has increased by 419 pounds compared with the previous generation S4.
Price
At present, Audi has only announced that the starting price of the A5 is $48,995, but has not announced the price of each model in the series. The new car is available in three configurations: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. The high-end models will be equipped with Audi's latest customizable digital headlights (DRL) and OLED taillights. Although the specific price of the S5 has not yet been announced, its starting price is expected to be close to $60,000.
The 2025 Audi A5 has been comprehensively upgraded in design, configuration and power system, but the price will also increase accordingly. Although the performance has been slightly adjusted, its overall luxury and technological configuration have made it very competitive in the same market.
